subject: Security Tips For Effective Mobile Phone Display [print this page]

Retailers of mobile phones know that while these gadgets are consumer magnets, they are also relatively easy to steal. But keeping electronic items such as mobile phones locked behind the glass counter is an ineffective way of attracting buyers and increasing sales. Retailers benefit more from open merchandising than simply keeping products behind the counter. Here are tips on implementing security for mobile phones while they are on display:

Use an especially designed security system

The most common security system used with electronic items such as mobile phones is the EAS or Electronic Article Surveillance. This is a system that is designed to keep mobile phones safe within the store. Mobile phones will be secure in its location, whether it's on top of the display counter or in the hands of a curious buyer.

An advantage to the EAS system is that while it provides effective security to keep the mobile phones from being stolen, it also allows customers to interact with the gadget. They can touch the mobile phone, examine it and discover its features without the store clerk worrying about shoplifting.

Another benefit to the EAS is that it can be used with supplementary mobile phone display security devices such as the Benefit Denial system which turns the mobile phone useless when stolen. It can also be used with common electronic tags that transmit to a security system located at the door of the store. The tag can only be turned off by a deactivator that the store clerk or cashier uses. If it's still activated and a customer attempts to bring it out of the store, the system will send out an alarm.

Displaying several mobile phones at once? Use a line alarm system

A line alarm system is an electronic means of keeping multiple products safe and secure even while on display. This is especially helpful in case there are several popular models that consumers want to see.

Install security cameras

Security cameras are invaluable to retailers, particularly those selling high-end electronic goods such as mobile phones. Security cameras are excellent for helping discourage crimes such as theft by making it clear to would-be criminals that activities within the store are being monitored.

Security cameras are also effective in helping catch a thief, should an incident happen. Footages recorded by security cameras may be reviewed, which can help identify the thief. Recorded images may also be used as evidence later.
