And they pursue the course which the rebellious men followed during the reign of Solomon. And Solomon did not disbelieve; but it was the rebellious ones who disbelieved, teaching people falsehood and deception. And they pursue what was revealed to the two angels in Babylon, Harut and Marut. But these two taught no one until they had said: We are but a trial, do not therefore disbelieve.' So men learnt from them that by which they made a difference between a man and his wife, but they harmed no one thereby, except by the command of Allah; on the contrary, these people are learning that which would harm them and do them no good. And they have certainly known that he who trafficks therein has no share of good in the Hereafter; and surely, evil is that for which they have sold their souls; had they but known! Al-Baqarah Chapter 2: Verse 103

Yes, I started with a verse from the Quran. But I believe it's a very important verse, and no, I'm not going to try to convert you to Islam.

As you may be very aware of right now, there is talk of plans to build a mosque in the United States of America. Not just in America, but a measly 200 meters away from ground zero of the 9/11 attacks on the world trade center that devastated a whole nation on what started out an ordinary day in 2001.

As to build a mosque on this would be an insult to the survivors of those that lost their lives that day, along with the rest of the United States population. It is true that not all Muslims are radical terrorists, nor do they support the few that are. However, if the Muslim population believes the United States brought the attacks upon itself as a result of our national and international policies, and I believe that they do believe this, what does that mean for us? And what does that mean for our constitutional rights? How far are we willing to go to prove we are tolerant?

Or, do we say "enough is enough?" if they believe that the evil man is one that goes against Allah and Islam, they will always believe us to be evil due to the majority of our population claiming a Christian faith. What do we gain by caving now after fighting terror at home and abroad for our entire existence as a nation? Did we give up in WWII after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor or even during the civil war when slavery threatened to tear the nation apart forever? No we did not, so why now? Why even give it the thought?

Believers are exhorted to stand firm in the face of temptation and doubt, confident in what God has done for them. 1 Corinthians 15:58

Now I end with a verse from the bible, and no, I'm not being a bible thumper, but I do believe it's an important verse. Americans have stood too proud for too long in the ideals this nation was founded on to be caving now. If we cave we are saying "we're sorry for something that happened to us. Sorry we provoked you." We must stand tall in our beliefs. If we choose this route, we are saying that "we were just doing what we do. If you stay out of my face, I'll stay out of yours. But just remember, do not dish out what you can't take back."

That's the stance the United States needs to take today. A mosque would only serve to take away all we've fought for at home and abroad.
