subject: Spanish In Merida, mexico [print this page] Deciding where to study abroad can be a hard decision. Especially with all the different schools out there. Is there really a great school that can really offer all that they advertise?
The only true way to become fluent in a language is immerse yourself. I was looking for a school that could exceed my high expectations.
Immersion offers a fast alternative to Spanish through a variety of courses from week-long ones equivalent to taking three semesters of Spanish at a traditional university. There are many differences in price based on popularity and place of study. For example courses in Europe are very expensive compared to those in closer countries such as Mexico.
Before I decided where to study abroad, I made a list of my Spanish learning needs as well as what I was looking to gain from my time abroad. After researching, reading and comparing schools in 20 different cities in 5 possible countries.
My first concern was the cost. Currently the exchange rate of the Euros vs. US Dollars is high, therefore studying in Europe was not really an option. I also thought about travel time and distanc; Argentina and other Latin American countries were too far from home. That narrowed down my search to Mexico.
Yet another concern was the quality of the program. I found many schools that claimed I could learn Spanish in just one week. If I enrolled in one of these schools I would find myself having new classmates every week and going over and over the same material. Those cities and their schools were just too good to be true.
The Spanish Institute of Mrida is a well established Spanish Language School with a proven methodology and a great atmosphere for learning Spanish. You will live the Spanish language and culture up to 16 hours a day. All our professors have college degrees and a vast teaching experience.
The Spanish Institute of Mrida offers 30 hours a week of instruction; more than any other well know Spanish Language School.
I decided to attend the Spanish Institute of Meridas 3-week group program. I stayed with a local Yucatecan host family. After I finished my course I was much more confident and ready to use my new Spanish vocabulary and conversation skills.
