subject: How To Get Wi-fi Broadband Wherever You Are [print this page]

Wireless broadband is always useful for getting online when you're on the go.

Many are predicting that there will be an increased need for a mobile internet connection and some experts believe that the current 3G network won't be able to cope with so many users downloading and surfing on the move.

But if wi-fi is the future how can make sure you get access? Here are three ways to get wi-fi wherever you are.

The first point is that it helps to live somewhere that has a lot of free public wi-fi access.

For example, in London plans have been made by London Mayor Boris Johnson to extend the cities WiFi coverage in time for the 2012 Olympics to give Londoners world-leading mobile broadband.

The Cloud network linked with o2 has come forward confirming that they have in fact been in talks to dramatically increase network coverage for the capital city, with some speculating that lamp posts and bus stops will be made into WiFi hotspots.

So, in general, it does help to be in an urban area where local authorities are more likely to invest in wi-fi networks when you're looking for a signal.

The second point is that different devices pick up wireless signal in different ways.

At the moment smart phones such as the IPhone look for any available wireless network before relying on the 3G connection, for example.

This is also true of mobile broadband modems from companies that have their own wi-fi networks for paying customers such as O2 and T-mobile.

So although any wi-fi enabled laptop will also work these are well worth signing up for if you're looking for the best way to get wireless signal.

That brings us to the third point which is that it's not just the modems of some providers but their broadband deals that can help customers to get wi-fi wherever they are.

The increased coverage planned for the capital will have many mobile broadband providers fighting to offer the best possible deal.

Pay and go options will be extremely appealing to those who only want wi-fi for a limited time with offers starting from 2 pounds a day and some companies offering weekly packages starting from as little as 7 pounds a week.

Some providers only allow people with mobile broadband contracts to get onto their wi-fi networks.

All broadband deals such as this are limited to certain usage policies, though.

However, some broadband companies have now started to cede to customers by offering high-usage mobile broadband deals or even unlimited mobile broadband deals.

All of these options should help you to get hold of wi-fi broadband wherever you are.
