subject: Av Jobs Allow You To Make An Impact And Get Noticed [print this page]

The profusion of media and entertainment channels has thrown open a lot of opportunities for individuals who are flashy, extroverted, and have a yen for becoming a part of the entertainment industry. With cable television occupying a good deal of viewing time in a typical household, the chances for quick visibility to a wide audience have increased exponentially for performing artists as well as others who have taken up audio visual jobs.

New channels are being introduced regularly and opportunities beckon to those who can perform in reality shows or live events - and also those who can put these shows together. Event management companies are the ones who are responsible for most of the live shows that you see on cable television, and people who are involved with the organisation of a show need to be pretty methodical about the way they go about things, must have a good network of associates, and should be able to run the exacting schedule to perfection.

Consequently it is not only the performers but also the technical staff who are very much in demand and there are a lot of AV jobs that have opened up for such trained people. Whether it is the sound recordist, the set designer or the makeup artist, everybody has got a role to play and as long as you do not mind the long hours and erratic lifestyle, this industry should appeal to you.

To find a foothold in this industry, you must get qualified in your field of interest and having done so can look for vacancies. If you are a technically qualified person, then there are many options to choose from in the field of art, sound, special effects, graphics, set design and so on. If not, then you need to be looking for marketing jobs in event management companies.

Here you will have to sell advertising space as well as do a lot of liaison work in order to ensure that a particular event is conducted well and is a success.

If you are a performer, then the sky is the limit. You can give auditions and screen tests to a lot of these entertainment channels and they will use these as a basis to either hire you to either work full time or on a freelance basis with them, or reject your application.

You could face a lot of initial rejections and will undergo many setbacks, but you must have the self confidence and courage to keep persisting in your field of expertise in order to taste success. Do not be wary of starting at a lower level. Take it as a stepping stone to your ultimate success and utilise the experience to develop your network in the field. If you can do that, then you would have achieved great success and would not have to go looking for jobs. People will refer you and through positive word-of-mouth publicity you can get many offers coming your way.
