Physical materials certainly help to provide the most realistic representation of an architectural project. Accuracy in architectural model making is compromised by the use of 3D software. The traditional methods of presenting a project for financial backing will always be the most effective.

Sale presentations present the need for a realistic re-creation of the idea or project that designs how to get financing for. There are visual aspects that software will never be able to present such as coloring and texture. Architecture is and has always been an art form. This makes appealing to the senses of prospective backers in the most life-like fashion of truly high importance.

There are features that 3D models can deliver that traditional methods cannot. This cutting edge form of model making allows for the incorporation of pertinent project data without having to create a secondary, side report. With this inclusion these models are able to present valuable project facts with minimal resources.

3D models do not require designers to invest consideration in sensitive design materials. The desired lighting effects can be achieved relatively easily making the design process far less of a hassle. In many instances, computer generated 3D models can more cost effective, more durable, and involve less construction effort.

It is accuracy however that they lack. Accuracy when using 3D architectural models is lacking in a major way. First, 3D software can never truly display a three dimensional re-creation of any project. The resulting image has been and will always be two dimensional.

Another major loss is the ability for designers of different trades to come together during the formative stages of the design process. For many years the traditional model has been the round table at which various individuals working within the project can come together to discuss design issues and implement working solutions. Software negates even this important process, further compromising accuracy in architectural models.
