subject: Dishwashers Debunking The Myths [print this page]

Dishwashers are now one of the most common features in most homes today, in the past they may have been considered as wasteful or luxurious but when you think about it nobody enjoys doing the dishes and now that there is an appliance available you wont have to spend hours with the scrubbing brush trying to get last nights dinner off your plates!

There are a few arguments the less informed put forward when trying to explain why they dont need a dishwasher and if they were made aware of the facts then theres a good chance that they would be the first people driving out to the shops to buy a dishwasher.

Arent they wasteful?

Many people have the idea that a dishwasher uses too much water and electricity and can be quite wasteful, this may have been true about the early dishwashers but recently technology has made most dishwashers much more efficient than even washing by hand, it is estimated you could cut your water use down by 6 gallons if you switch to a dishwasher making this argument void.

I dont have enough room for a dishwasher

With smaller kitchens you may struggle to fit a dishwasher in with your other appliances, but unlike other appliances like washing machines there are smaller models such as slim line dishwashers that can be as little as half as wide as the regular 59.5cm wide appliances. If that isnt enough space then there are also table top models that are a similar size to a sink that can take the effort out of washing your dishes.

I dont need another noisy appliance in my kitchen

This can be a problem with open plan living spaces, your appliance will often make some noise when it is operating, washing machines and dryers are common culprits for this but in the past dishwashers have been known to make a din too. Modern models though are not only much quieter but they can also be built into our kitchen worktops and fascias so that the noise can be insulated by our cupboards too.

There are many other features present in modern dishwashers that have made them much more convenient such as being able to set a delayed start, this means that for homes where their utility supplier charges less for off peak usage that they can set their dishwasher to run through the night instead, with a bonus of having fresh clean dishes ready when you wake up.
