The earliest paintings were the rock paintings from 1990s, artists began to multiply the forms they used in their work. India has also been the home of renowned artists who have earned their reputation globally. Their brilliant work has been rewarded exclusively at international auctions. Paintings of M.F. Husain and Tyeb Mehta have fetched millions. The stunning artworks and paintings have been on topics varying from religious to the abstract ones. Contemporary art however covers all aspects in every arena. There are some exceptional artists whose names have been respected and their works great valued. Some of them would be:
Abanindranath Tagore: he was the nephew of Rabindranath Tagore and earned the reputation of being among the outstanding artists from the Bengal school of painting.

One of the finest Indian painter; he had lost his mother when he was one and a half years old. His works are highly priced in international markets.
Tyeb Mehta
A well known Indian artist with the record of the highest price for which an Indian painting has ever been sold, in a public auction (triptych painting Celebration was sold for 15 million Indian rupees).
Anjolie Ela Menon
She has been one of the most admired India's contemporary female artists and has earned a good name in domestic as well as international art scenario.. One of her art works, 'Yatra' was chosen for the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco at California in the year 2006.
