subject: Maximize The Limited Home Space Today [print this page]

Making more room on limited space is a challenge worth taking. The size of houses, apartments, and condominiums these days are a lot smaller than what they were twenty years ago. The reason for this is that land is a limited resource and the acquisition cost of it has increased dramatically in the last twenty five years. In fact, some countries have reclaimed land from the sea just to meet the housing demand of a population that has increased somewhat. The end trend might be for these countries that are land-challenged is to have high rise buildings with high density living with apartment cuts that may reach the 100 to 200 square metres maximum.

Given that consideration, those with existing homes and houses should be lucky to have such property and in that situation, the need for maximizing space should be a priority for those home owners. Cross utilization of some areas of the house must be maximized. For example, converting your garage into an extra guest room or office space can be done by insulating the area. Having insulated garage doors helps keep the garage warm during the winter months. The process of making insulated garage doors is not hard to do since it just requires placing insulating material for your garage door, which can be found in most hardware stores. You can even go online and purchase the insulating material. Learning how to insulate your garage door can also be found on the internet after searching for in on a search engine portal like Google, msn, or yahoo.

The other important thing you have to do for your garage is to sort and organize the contents within the garage. The garage has always been a repository for things not needed within the house. Many times, the garage becomes messy and cluttered. The first thing that needs to be done is to purchase stackable organizers in the forms of transparent plastic bins. These transparent bins are for you to place the material found in your garage such as papers, documents and perhaps some seasonal clothing and stack them in one area. Having the bins transparent makes it easier for you to know what items are inside the bin.

Making an office room or a guest room is an option which you may need the help of a contractor if you are not handy with carpentry work. If this is beyond your budget, then you can first make a work space area which does not need any false walls or dividers. But what you already have with you is a well organized garage that can be transformed into a work space area or a guest room, thereby optimizing your space.
