subject: justice courts and delays [print this page]

One way to ensure that this faith remains intact is to make sure that the speedy justice is meted out to the victims. As it is famously said - Justice delayed is Justice denied; long delays in meting out justice defeat the whole idea behind the concept of Justice. We have an example of this in our very own country. Over three million cases are pending in the various high courts and an astronomical 26.3 million cases are pending in the subordinate courts of India. These statistics themselves tell a story and a telling one at that. Initiatives like Lok Adalat have been helpful to some extent in ensuring speedy justice is delivered in petty civil cases but a lot more needs to be done. The excruciating delay faced by the victims in Indian courts is one issue that raises serious doubts about the efficacy in the Indian Judicial system.
