If you're a bit down about starting the new school term, maybe it's time to think creatively. Don't think of that long row of metal lockers as your prison sentencethink of it as an empty canvas. Decorating school lockers means always having a small corner of the school that belongs to you, and expresses your personality and no one else's. Make it your happy place.

Here are some ideas to get you and your friends started decorating those school lockers. You can do it as a group, or do it on your own. Be sure to ask the appropriate people if it's okay to decorate them, and what materials are okay to use and what are not.

The best place to start is to choose a theme. Maybe you like nature? Or maybe you have a thing for cars, vampires, or a favourite TV show?

Choose something appropriate for a background. This can be as simple as covering the inside of the locker with coloured paper, or something as complex as drawing or painting a picture to put in the back. If you want a nature theme, you could put a big paper tree in the back and make the branches extend to the sides of the locker and the door. You could put little pompom animals on the branches, or draw animals onto the tree.

For a car theme, why not cut photos out of car magazines? Or draw cars onto white paper and line your locker with it.

Think three dimensional as well. Use buttons, charms, miniatures, and toys to add texture and depth to your locker decor.

With a newly decorated locker, you're well on your way to a fun school term. Remember, don't think of that line of metal lockers as mere places to store your books. Think of it as your personal piece of the school. Have fun!
