subject: Delivering Medical Shipments That Are Sensitive To Temperature [print this page]

When a New Jersey courier service deals in the shipping of medical products, one of the largest concerns that they deal with is the temperature of those goods. With the exception of the food industry, there is rarely a case where the temperature of goods in transit is of critical importance. However, when transporting either medical material or pharmaceutical products, it is crucial every step of the way that the proper temperatures be maintained.

There are a number of different types of material within this industry in which temperature is important. For example, medical deliveries often include things like tissue samples which are being sent for testing, or blood which needs to be transported before being used in transfusions. These kinds of biological materials can become completely destroyed if exposed to heat for even a brief amount of time. Therefore, when shipping them, especially during the summer months, every possible step must be taken to ensure that they do not get warmed.

There are a number of things that courier companies and those that are shipping with them can do to make sure that this type of material can be transported without being damaged in any way. The easiest way to go about it is to start by making sure that all the containers the goods are packaged in are completely insulated. The better insulated the packaging is, the less chance the goods will be damaged during the time that they are in transit between an inside refrigerated storage facility and the refrigerated vehicles which are used to transport them.

The courier companies that are in this line of business also need to have special licenses and permits in order to move these types of goods. One of the terms of getting that type of certification is going to be having the right kind of equipment for moving medical material. This means specialized, refrigerated storage units in which the temperature can be carefully controlled so that whatever they are shipping can be moved at a temperature which is optimum for the particular type of goods which are in transit.

Other steps can also be taken to help further protect temperature sensitive goods. A particularly useful measure can be the use of temperature controlled loading bays. If a vehicle can pull right inside a hospital or other facility to make a pickup or a delivery in a temperature controlled bay, there are none of the dangers associated with transferring goods outside.
