subject: Article Marketing Explained [print this page]

When some entrepreneurs first try their hand at internet marketing and begin to learn some of the methods involved, the thought of writing article as a means of marketing doesn't exacly inspire people into action. With no real desire to write and concerns over the amount of time it is likely to take to produce a good article, is it any wonder that some internet marketers are at first reluctant to explore this method of marketing.

However once people realise the true power of article marketing and the effect it can have in driving quality traffic to a website they soon come around to the idea of using it in their online marketing. Whatever you are promoting be it a website or product this form of internet marketing should be one of your online marketing strategies.

There are a number of things that you need to do before you write your very first article. In this post I'm going to try and shed some light on how to get started with article marketing.

Article marketing as been around for a long time and there are many successful internet marketers using this method as a means of driving free targeted traffic to their websites. It is an excellent way to get your website ranked high in major search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo and msn.

Article marketing involves writing an article that is related to the website that you want to promote and then submitting it to the free article directories like Ezinearticles.com. There are many article directories online but Ezine articles is very popular with Google. If you can get an article accepted here and you do other certain things correctly (see below), then you have a good chance of ranking highly in the search engines.

Relevancy - Keywords are very important and are going to be the corner stone of your article marketing campaign. You need to find the keywords that are the most relevant to your website/products and include them in your articles.

Choosing The Right Keywords - You need to be sure that people are actually searching for the particular keyword that you are considering basing your article on. There are millions of keywords that people type into the search engines every day. If there are no searches for your keyword then you are wasting your time because your article won't be found. Use google's free keyword tool for keyword research.

Competition - Depending on the popularity of the keyword you may find it difficult to rank highly for broad keyword terms. What you need to focus on are the long tail keywords related to your chosen field. Also try to make sure there are a low number of competing pages, below 30,000 gives you a good chance of getting your article onto the first page.

Traffic - A lot of beginners believe that they should go for keywords that have large quantities of traffic. With this comes lots of competition so go for 2000/3000 searches p/m, although if it's a highly targeted keyword 500/1000 searches p/m would be adequate.

Summary

Before you start the process of creating an articlea a good idea would be to absorb some of the information here so you make sure that you get your keyword research right. Once you have mastered this and written your first article then you'll soon see the impact it can have and it will become much easier over time.
