Don't worry about bulking up and looking like one of those lady body builders you've seen in magazines. Those gals have to do an extreme amount of work and supplementation to be able to look that way, it by no means comes naturally.

Instead, building muscle will increase your natural metabolism and cause you to burn more calories every day even though you aren't trying. The more lean muscle you have on your frame the more calories you will be burning on auto pilot.

Building muscle does take work though, it's not your usual low intensity activity like walking on a treadmill. As long as you have good form and have practiced, the heavier weight you lift the better.

There's really no reason to do over 10 reps either. Many women who think lifting weights is good still don't do it effectively. When you do over 10 reps, it's basically an indicator that you aren't lifting enough weight and therefore aren't putting enough stress on your muscles to break them down.

Remember, only after you break your muscles down will they rebuild and get stronger. And as you do, your muscles probably won't even get that much bigger, they will get denser. This will give you that toned look you're after AND make it easier to burn fat off your body.
