This one has been declared Historical National Monument and it keeps remains of the historical fort built in 1770 to defend the people from the indigene invasions. Other activities to do in the town of San Carlos include the visit to the path of the Portillo, where we can follow the route taken by the Liberator, General San Martin. Moreover, we can go over the Diamante Lagoon, right at the foot of the Maipo Volcano, where we can fish some rainbow trouts, walk around admiring the wonders of Mother Nature or do some diving in the mountain.
Another lovely town to visit is Valle del Sol (Sun Valley), the perfect place to spend your vacations in the province of Mendoza. Only a couple kilometers away from Potrerillos, this town offer quietness, pure air and sunny days cuddled by the gentle arms of Mother Nature and its marvels. Valle del Sols microclimate leads to deep contrasts in the local vegetation. This phenomenon shows on the green pinewoods on one hillside and arid land, typical of the high mountain environment, on the other.
One of the most interesting and attractive features of the Valle del Sol is a nursery garden of exotic flora, which hosts a wide assortment of species with bright colors and vibrant shapes. Horseback riding over the town, having a drink in a canteen in the evening before returning to the Mendozas 4 Stars Hotel, or visiting a farm with typical Andean animals, a playground and a restaurant are some of the options in Valle del Sol.
