subject: Log Cabins Use Them As Fun, Exciting Vacation Homes Or Primary Residences [print this page]

Would you love to have your very own, authentic looking log cabin? Building one yourself has never been more popular or as easy to do! Just imagine the warmth and cosy atmosphere your cabin will provide! When you enter a custom made log home, time seems to fall away leaving behind all of the modern contraptions of today, leaving you relaxed and able to enjoy the essence of simpler days.

Hundreds of years ago, individuals and their extended families would build their own log homes; because of the laborious nature of building them by hand and perhaps the scarcity of materials, the log cabins of long ago quite small and rudimentary. Today, though, the industry is automated allowing those who would like to build this type of home the opportunity to do so simply and relatively inexpensively. Larger, spacious, and more glamorous, todays homes are much more than traditional, functional cabins you may stay in while on holiday, whether for a long weekend, or a week long excursion. These cabins offer a great alternative to living in a typical home.

Though wood, in general, isnt a terribly energy efficient building material, miraculously, log cabins tend to be. The reasons why this is true are still a mystery, but that doesnt take away from the fact that they are. You may find that the larger home you choose to build and the more windows you decide to install will detract from its energy efficient nature; keeping your home small and using as few windows as possible will ensure the best energy efficiency possible. Keep it simple cosiness is, after all, what having your own log home is about!

One of the easiest and best ways of building your own log cabin is to buy a kit, which allows you to keep expenses low and energy efficiency high. The kit comes with virtually everything you need and will be put together in such a way as to create a secure home that seals in warmth or cool air, whichever you need, depending on the season.

Many, many years ago, log homes were, no doubt, built in wilder areas prairies, mountains, etc. In the past few decades, though, cabins began to be used, essentially, as an alternative to camping in a tent. Individuals can still rent small log homes to stay in over their holiday. Today, however, cabins are built by those who want to live in them year round with their families.

If you would love to build your own log cabin for use as your primary residence or a lovely vacation home, be sure you diligently spend some time investigating the companies that offer log cabin kits.
