subject: Mifi Saved Our Presentation! [print this page]

Healthcare and Mi-Fi-a best matchHealthcare and Mi-Fi-a best match. It was the Annual Healthcare Expo at the Convention Center in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, the City of Brotherly Really like. House of the Liberty Bell, both liberty and really like filled the streets, as we arrived prepared to get down to business.

As part of the "Web and Healthcare" section, our team had been invited to create three booths this year: "How to utilize the net to research healthcare options", "How to utilize the net to see which pharmacies are the most convenient when filling prescriptions", and last, but not least, "How to utilize the net to locate details on discreet illnesses and viruses

Now, with the frequent key phrase "How to utilize the net to" 1 would think that the center would have been equipped with the WiFi connection necessary to provide a correct hands-on demonstration. There were plenty of overhead projectors and microphones create at every booth. However, they didn't deliver on the Wi-Fi connection.

I'm certain it is possible to imagine our utter astonishment when we arrived, create, but could not connect to the internet. As the people started to gather, we switched on our laptops and attempted to connect. The laptops started searching for the wireless signal. searching. searching..The inquisitive audience started to show signs of impatience.the sweat started to bead. At that point, I wanted to disappear!

Then, like a bolt of lightning, it struck me! That MiFi thingy that Josh Anderson from the IT department had just purchased! Oh, Josh do not fail me now! I ran in search of Josh and found him checking out another exhibit.

As I drug him back to our booth, I asked for a quick primer on MiFi. Will it work for all of our laptops? Will I be able to utilize it with my non-techy brain? Will it take a long time to connect? I was previously nervous about the delay and didn't desire to make a larger fool out of myself.

Josh explained that, MI-FI short for mobile WiFi, is the best mobile wireless connection. With broadband rate, it averages 600kbps-1.4Mbps for downloads and 350-500kbps for uploads. However, the most unique feature is that it supports up to 5 WiFi enabled devices at once. And having a radius of 30-40 ft., just 1 portable large rate device can be a "central connection hub", allowing an entire team to share 1 high-speed MiFi connection.

Well, needless to say, Mr. "IT" saved the day! Or, rather I should say, his trusty new "compadre ". With his MiFi Hotspot, we were all able to give correct net based interactive demonstrations, wowed the audience, and had laptops prepared to sign up customers for our service plan through the company site. Also, following the success of our presentation, we've previously been invited to next year's.

As a tokenof our appreciation, Josh earned himself a brand new carrying case, courtesy of and autographed by you know who the Web and Healthcare Crew!
