subject: Calculating Electronic Cigarette Savings [print this page]

There are some aspects of smoking tobacco cigarettes that make them very expensive. Aside from the high taxes often added to tobacco sales, the cigarettes themselves are costly. When you smoke a cigarette, you generally smoke the entire thing, whether or not you want to. Of course, stubbing your cigarette out and saving it for later changes the taste. It also makes you reek if you carry the half-smoked cig around in your pocket. There are some distinctive features of e-cigs that make electronic cigarette savings substantial. If you're smoking a pack a day and pay $5.00 for each pack, switching to a vaporizer may save you over $1,000 a year.

The electronic cigarette savings you enjoy come largely from the nature of the device. Many e-cig smokers don't puff as much as do regular cigarette smokers. They oftentimes take a couple of puffs and put the device down for a while. Of course, if you do this with a regular cigarette, it burns on its own, consuming your tobacco and your money. An e-cig doesn't activate unless you depress the button or take a drag, so there's no consumption of anything going on when you set it down for a while.

Electronic cigarette savings also stem from the fact that the product you're vaporizing isn't tobacco and, thus, isn't subject to tobacco taxes. Electronic cigarettes make use of a liquid that's applied to a typically cloth reservoir material. This liquid may or may not contain nicotine, depending upon your preference. If you have an affinity for a certain brand of cigarette, you can usually find cartridges that emulate the flavor of those cigarettes rather closely. It's basically like having your favorite brand of cigarette without all of the expense of the taxes added to the product.

There are other ways that electronic cigarette savings can be substantial. Some e-smokers find themselves able to content themselves with a few puffs during their break times. While this may not directly put money in your pocket, it frees up the time you'd normally spend smoking. With good cartridges, you can get a full pack's worth of vaporizing off of a cartridge, which makes it even more cost-effective. The cost of one cartridge is substantially lower than the cost of a pack of cigarettes, and this ensures that you'll be saving money whether or not you puff less than you did before.
