There are over 600.000 inhabitants in Rotterdam, the one and only architect town of the Netherlands. From far away you'll see the impressive (for Dutch standards!) skyline with the Euromast and the Erasmusbridge as the main landmarks. Skyscrapers pop up everywhere like mushrooms and also the Central railway station is undergoing a huge transformation. Old factories and warehouses are being build into new hyper modern locations. For example the Van Nelle factory (turned into the Design factory) and the former Schiecentral in the Lloyd quarter, the booming heart of the audiovisual industry of Rotterdam.
Festivals & Events
Rotterdam has lots of events all year long. Sports, music, culture you name it and it's there. So you shouldn't be surprised that the city was named Event City of the Year 2010.
Sports
Sportfreaks will go mental in Rotterdam. Just a few of the many available events is Bavaria City Racing, the Rabobank Six Days of Cycling and several high profile tennis tournaments. Don't forget: the Tour de France started in 2010 in Rotterdam, an amazing happening many cities can't say!

Dining will not be a problem in this town. First of all it was named Culinary Capital of 2010. Exotic dishes, a nice French meal every international cuisine is represented. The many high profile restaurants and cosy top quality diners are definitely worth a shot. A certain recommendation goes to Hotel New York, not just because of its looks and location. Another nice one is cruise hotel De Rotterdam. Though there are lots of (slightly better, to be honest) other options on the waterfront, the location is one of a kind. And it's a huge ship!

In 2010 Rotterdam was names Best Pop Stage of the Netherlands, meaning it's the place place to perform and breakt through. Another cool one is bar De Witte Aap (White Monkey) , named by backpacking Bible Lonely Planet as the best bar in the world. Seriously? Go see for yourself!

Even if the harbor doesn't interst you one bit!
