The WD TV Live is a wonderful piece of kit. It's small in proportions, as is it's remote, and the media player only requires a handful of cable connections, one for the power and the other to connect to your television. It possesses a simple graphical user interface, displaying the Western Digital logo once the device is fired up, then after a few seconds displaying the menu, which lets you either make changes to the devices settings, view the video, audio, and photo files currently accessible at that time and also several additional features.
The WD TV Live looks the part, fitting in nicely with my home cinema setup inside the living room, and it has managed to play several files without any issue what so ever. The sole complaint I have about the device is the fact that it does seem slightly clumsy when forwarding or rewinding HD content. To explain further, with some HD movies, I've noticed that when your forward the movie, it'll display the movie on screen and the picture changes as it normally would when forwarding, but it would suddenly pause on the screen, this means you can't see at what stage you actually would like to begin playing the movie again. It does display a time counter in the corner, so it's possible to tell roughly where to start playing again, but even this isn't perfect, as it can be forwarding/rewinding, you then press play, but the media player doesn't respond for a good few seconds, and that means you go way past the mark where you desired to begin watching, quite an issue when your forwarding/rewinding at 16x speed.
Aside from this, the media player has been faultless. It's played all the files I've thrown it's way first time, every time, considering it's small size, and the standard of it's build and it's playing ability, in addition to it's price, it truly is a cracking media player.
