subject: How To Build Self Esteem - The 5 Tips To Turbo Charge Your Way To Success [print this page]

What is it about yourself that draws other people into friendships or a deeper relationship? Are you fun loving, pretty, smart? Perhaps you have no idea why people like you and it's time you take a good inner look at yourself. You may discover you need to learn how to build self esteem. A healthy person should be able to come up with at least 3 or 4 reasons people are attracted to them and more is better. Here is a list of 5 suggestions to help you on this journey. The road may be unfamiliar and rocky causing you to stumble every few feet or you may be somewhat familiar with it and just need a reminder.

1. When you stumble, get right back up. The truth is you can be familiar or not familiar with how to build self esteem, but even the more experienced stumble. Life throws things at us every day to test our self esteem. No one is exempt from these tests. Learn to roll with it.

2. Don't compare yourself to anyone else. There is only one you. Trying to be like another person is setting your expectations for yourself too high. It only sets you up for failure.

3. Put your mind on a fast. No negative thoughts are allowed. When you find a negative thought wandering through your head, use your mouth to speak the opposite. For instance, your mind says you are stupid so with your mouth say, "I am intelligent." Counteract each and every negative with a positive. What you dwell on, you become.

4. Do things that make you feel good about yourself. This is a broad subject because it can encompass a variety of ideas. It could be anything from physical exercise to arts or crafts to making a gourmet meal. What are you good at?

5. As you do that thing you are very good at it, open yourself up to compliments. It's okay for people to notice you have a talent or skill. You do the thing for yourself, not for other's attention, but when they compliment you, simply say, "Thank you."
