subject: Google Finally Discloses Adsense Percentages [print this page]

Adsense earnings for publishers have a been a controversial topic on many forums since they began in 2003 but today they have finally opened up and have disclosed their percentages paid to publishers on Adsense for content and on adsense for search.

Overall, it is an interesting disclosure they have made under the guise of greater transparency. For anyone who is an adsense publisher on any of their websites it will help to choose better topics and it will help a bit in where to place certain adsense ads on a page in relation to a topic.

Why has Google Offered this Sudden Transparency?

Google has offered this information in a spirit of goodwill and greater transparency with their publishers. This is an interesting disclosure and I 'll have to leave it to better minds with more technical expertise to have a stab at any other explaination. I'm just happy to know the information because it now allows me to make better decisions as to which monetisation method to use with which niche I'm targeting. I am quite sure there are many others who are also happy just to finally know the percentages.

Which is the Most Profitable Google Product to Date?

Adsense for Content is the most popular and most commonly used Google product so far disclosed at 68% of the revenue raised paid to a publisher for each click. Personally, this is considerably higher than what I had been guestimating so I now know to go back to some of my websites and perform a few tweaks that I wouldn't have otherwise known needed to be made.

What About Google for Search?

Placing a Google search box on your website is the least profitable and is paid out at 51% of the revenue earned. Which is about what I had been guestimating simply because it rarely produced any income. But I will continue to use it where I think it will be a convenience for my visitors because if they are going to click away then I might as well try for a bit of extra income for offering them a convenient way in which to do it.

Has Google Disclosed the Percentages for the Other Google Products?

To date, no percentages have yet been disclosed for earnings for adsense for feed, mobile or games. These are still evolving platforms and Google still has set-up expenses and other developmental costs to undergo before a percentage of earnings for publishers can be disclosed. This is fair enough, and I wasn't aware that Google even had a product for games. Did you? So obviously there will need to be a considerable marketing campaign instigated to get this information out to publishers.

The Internet today is evolving at an exceptionally fast pace even by the standards of the world wide web. This technical revolution is showing even more signs of evolving at a faster pace than it has in the past five years so when it will plateau out and consolidate some of these technical marvels is anybodies guess.
