When most of us look back on our college days we do so with nostalgia, remembering the good times, social events, and even the educational experience holds great value in ones mind. But what is not missed about college is, you guessed, how poor you were. Those days of getting creative in the kitchen on a shoe-string budget made for some of the most outstanding Top Ramen dishes. And when you had a barbecue with your friends, you were grateful to have a two dollar barbecue sauce bottle to sparingly use on your meat to make it stretch for an army of twenty.

However, if you are still punching out those papers and tests, holding down a part time job that barely pays for your room in a house occupied by seven of you, and trying to make a penny stretch a mile for that painful trip to the grocery store, there is some good news as to how you can create a gourmet style barbecue sauce and cooking experience without having to sacrifice your rent payment.

Then your roommates bring it up to you that it now time again for yet another social event at your place. They want to throw a barbecue, but you have only a few bucks to spare. What could you do?

Well, you can start by going to the grocery store and buying the basic ingredients for the barbecue sauce. Now, if you are thinking that you can throw three to six bucks on a couple of bottles of store bought barbecue sauce you might want to redirect yourself to the condiments isle because knowing your friends you will be cooking for a zoo.

Take your six to ten dollars and grab yourself some white vinegar, ketchup, a couple of cans of diced tomatoes, an onion and a small bottle of Tabasco sauce. Go home and hit the kitchen and chop your union and saute them in a sauce pan until golden brown, mix three cups of your ketchup, 1/4 cup of the vinegar, throw in the tomatoes and give the barbecue sauce a few good dashes of Tabasco.

If you have any brown sugar you may want to add 1/4 of a cup for sweetness, or if you have any extra spices try adding a few pinches of chili powder, onion salt or whatever little spices you have in the pantry, or just use salt and pepper to taste.

And, there you have it, a perfect barbecue sauce without the expense. Your friends will thank you for adding such a great kick to your social event with your cheap, delicious and somewhat Texan style barbecue sauce recipe.
