Collins played eight seasons for the Sixers and became a four-time All-Star in a career shortened by injuries. Stefanski said they decided to hire Collins since they knew he has the skills and talents to bring back the Sixers to the playoffs and even to the NBA championship. He added that having basketball in his entire life made Collins the right man for the job since he has the passion for the game which is great for the franchise and its countless fans around the world. The new coach who will replace Eddie Jordan the former coach of the Wizards is very happy with the chance to coach the team and promised to give his 100 percent to ensure the Sixers can make it to the postseason next year. Collins went 332-287 in coaching stints with the Chicago Bulls, Detroit Pistons and Wizards.
He led the Bulls to the Eastern Conference finals in 1989. Brand, the superstar power-forward of the Sixers is happy with the hiring of Collins saying he has confidence that he can bring good things to the franchise in the next season of the NBA.
