Many people today still rely on the conventional methods of water purification. Even if they have one, they hardly consider the change of the filter cartridge or membrane; or in short, maintenance aspects. A water purification system cannot run for years together; you will have to change the changeable parts at least annually to get pure water round the year. In India with the total dissolved solid (TDS) levels being high in many places, reverse osmosis water systems are the most used in these areas. TDS includes non-organic contaminants in water. And checking of TDS levels is not only limited to tap water but also purified water to know if you are really getting pure water. If you happen to check the TDS content of the water purified in your water purifier the components of which have not been changed for say two years, you will be surprised to find that you are actually drinking impure water!

70 percent of our body consists of water and the body functions are regulated by the water levels. You will need to drink at least eight glasses of water everyday to uphold the same. And imagine drinking impure water! The functioning will get disrupted ultimately resulting in ailments. The most affected body part is the digestive system in such a situation and once the contaminants spread throughout your body, the hospitalization may continue for days together and it may even cause death if the situation is grave.

In reverse osmosis water purification systems the key components are the carbon, filters and the membrane. Do get the same changed at the right time. It depends on the quantity of water purified. So you may require the membrane, carbon and filters to be changed once in a year. The components are affordable; the cost won't burn a hole in your pocket. So, do keep in mind to change the components in time if you are using reverse osmosis water systems. The same case applies to water purification systems involving other purifying mechanisms.
