The SMS service is added to the Any Where Any Time Advance Reservation (AWATAR) system to augment comfort and convenience to the passenger, KSRTC Managing Director Gaurav Gupta told The Hindu.
Apart from providing the sms alert service, the conductor of the bus will call the passenger at the departure time of the bus if he or she does not come up on the departure time. The mobile number of the passenger is printed on the trip sheet for this.
Asked to Mr. Gupta if sms would be an alternative to the printed ticket he said negatibely that that would not be a valid travel document.
Ksrtc was however planning to provide kiosks at the bus stations where after showing the sms a passenger could get the printed ticket. Also change in bus timings or cancellation or alternative arranfement would also be provided on sms. He added that Right now we are busy handling the peak season traffic and additions to the SMS service will be considered later.
Ksrtc is doing good in serving online bus booking by AWATAR system and has earned great amount of revenue through it.
