subject: Facebook - Lowering productivity since 2004 [print this page]

Throughout the day, I reopen the Facebook tab perhaps, 500 times. It's not because I'm particularly interested in what people have to say about their housework or the weather. In fact, I haven't even personally met 20% of those on my 'friends' list, so what they're saying often makes no sense to me. I just don't want to miss anything!

What if someone 'liked' my lame ass post? Or if they commented on my status from three days ago about some nonsense I've already forgotten? God forbid I'd miss these interactions!

Having created pages for my business, the band I manage, and the gigs I organise, I feel justified in being logged in all day. But you know I'm just kidding myself, it's not about self promotion (;-)), it's about being i.n.v.o.l.v.e.d. in the biggest phenomenon the world has seen since the invention of global warming.

Even though I'm well aware of losing my mind and sinking further into the social networking database of craziness, I'll never log out.

My name is Layla, and I'm a Facebookaholic, and the only 12 step program I'll ever join, currently has 3,230 members and holds it's meetings in the deep, dark depths of it's brain melting vice... Facebook.
