subject: How To Prevent The Problem Of Drain Blocking ? [print this page]

Clogging of drains is a commonly occurring problem in a house. When the drain gets completely blocked, the bathtub, shower, sink or toilet also gets full of water. In this scenario, it becomes very important to remove all that built up and clear out the drains. If the problem is big then it gets little difficult to clear the drain using household remedies or drain products.

Once you call a professional plumber, you need to spend a great deal of money. The more stubborn the blockage in your drain is, the higher the cost can be. At that time you would think that why you have not taken the precautions before and had your drains inspected.

Many times the main reason for clogging is carelessness. If you would not use strainer for trapping food particles and resisting them to pass through drain or into the pipes then it might result into clogging. However, it is seen that the main culprits of clogging are grease and/or oil build in the pipes.

You should take care and should not flush much of the toilet paper in your toilet. Also take care that you are not flushing things like baby wipes, paper towels and sanitary napkins in the toilet that are not meant to be flushed in the toilet as it results in blockage of your toilet.

The main reason for clogging in bathroom sinks, showers and bathtubs is trapping of hairs in it. The things that are used in bathroom such as shampoos, soaps, toothpaste and hair gel make the clogging even more worse.

However, the problem of clogged drains can be solved by you also. You can use acids or other chemical products for clearing the clogs. However, use of chemicals might be harmful for pipes, fixtures, your health and the environment. Therefore, prefer to follow natural methods for clearing drain blockages.

One such method involves running boiling water through the drains on a regular basis. Another method employs baking soda and vinegar. Simply pour vinegar into the clogged drain and then sprinkle it liberally with baking soda. Let the mixture sit in the drain for at least 15 minutes then pour boiling water over it to rinse and hopefully wash the blockage away.

In order to truly avoid the hassle and expense of seriously clogged drains, you must have all of your household drains inspected on a regular basis by a qualified plumber. As a preventative measure, you should get all the drains cleared using a plumbing snake once a year or so.
