subject: Nfl- Eagles Beat The Bears And Obtains Its Sixth Win Of The Season [print this page]

The Philadelphia Eagles stayed in the playoff zone classification in the NFC after beating the Chicago Bears 24-20 on the road this past Sunday at the Soldier Field. The Eagles quarterback, Donovan McNabb had a tremendous night and led his team from a fourth-quarter deficit while the defense preserved the victory at the end. It was a victory that the Eagles simply needed after losing two games in a row, and after knowing that their division contenders, the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys, won earlier on Sunday.

Starting the game, David Akers opened the board for Philadelphia with a field goal of 25 yards. And then the first touchdown pass came from McNabb to Jason Avant to put the boards 10-0 in favor of the Eagles. In the second quarter, there were not more annotations for the Eagles but the Bears did score with three field goals by Robbie Gould of 45, 28 and 28 to end at halftime with a score of 10-9 in favor of Philadelphia.

However, entering the third quarter, Chicago turned the game around with another 49-yard field goal by Robbie Gould to put the board 12-10 in favor of the Bears. But then again Philadelphia stumbled on the scoreboard with the second touchdown after McNabb's tossed to DeSean Jackson, setting the score 17-12. Nevertheless the local squad regained the advantage with its only touchdown pass of the night from Jay Cutler to Kellen Davis in 15 yards-touchdown, late in the third quarter, with two-point conversion. The third quarter ended 20-17 in favor of the Bears.

In the fourth quarter, the Eagles regained the advantage and sealed the scoring with a touchdown of 10 yards by LeSean McCoy to put the score 24-20. However, at the final minutes of the quarter the profound Sean Jones ended the aspirations of Chicago after intercepting Cutler's pass with less than a minute on the game clock.

The Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb ended the game completing 23-of-32 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns, including a 48-yard touchdown pass to DeSean Jackson in the third quarter, which was a key play for the game.

On the other hand, the Bears quarterback Jay Cutler completed only 56 percent of his passes for an average per attempt of 4 yards and had 19 in-completions.

With 8 receptions for 107 yards and 1 touchdown, DeSean Jackson was the best player of the match. Chicago cornerback Charles Tillman, who had 6 tackles, one assist and 3 forced fumbles, also shined.

With this victory, the Eagles improved to 6-4 while the Bears fell to 4-6. The Eagles are now in second place of the NFC East behind the Dallas Cowboys whereas the Chicago Bears are in third place of the NFC North behind the Vikings and the Packers.

Unless the Bears have a big comeback, they will miss the playoffs for the third straight year despite their transfer in the offseason to bring in Cutler from Denver.

The Eagles' next game will be against the Washington Redskins on November 29th while the Bears will face the Minnesota Vikings on the same day.
