A family visit to Orlando, Florida can be about more than just Disney World and Universal Studios - although those two premier destinations have done much to earn their reputations among international visitors. However, visitors shouldn't overlook Orlando's other excellent attractions, such as SeaWorld Orlando, which also have much to offer visitors of all ages.

Walt Disney World is still the world's most popular family theme park, but what some visitors won't know is that the experience can be about more than just white knuckle rides and the chance to have photos taken with famous characters. Taking time to explore the sprawling park in the evening can open up many mesmerising experiences, such as the night parade at Magic Kingdom and the dazzling IllumiNations display and fireworks at Epcot.

Disney World also is not renowned for its water parks, which is an oversight as these can be among its most entertaining offerings. Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon offer wet and wild fun for kids of all ages, including surf pools and coral reefs, while grown-ups can enjoy their time spent relaxing in the tropical surroundings.

Those looking for a little retail therapy during their stay at the resort can also hit the stores of Downtown Disney, a 120-acre shopper's paradise that will also keep the kids entertained with attractions such as DisneyQuest Indoor Interactive Theme Park.

The other big name in the 'theme park capital of the world', Universal Orlando, also boasts parks catering for visitors of all ages - including the Seuss Landing area aimed specifically at younger children. Located amidst the other attractions at Islands of Adventure, Seuss Landing features all the most popular characters from Dr Seuss' timeless children's stories, brought to life in the 10-acre tots' paradise.

SeaWorld Orlando is the other big-name destination in the city that invites visitors to explore the depths of the ocean, with rides and events celebrating everything to do with the sea and its myriad creatures. Discovery Cove is one of the park's most popular areas, combining swashbuckling pirate fun with the chance to enjoy a leisurely stroll along the beach or swim with dolphins.

You can also enjoy unique treats depending what time of year you visit Orlando, with the major theme parks and even Orlando hotels going the extra mile to celebrate occasions such as Christmas, Thanksgiving and Halloween, to allow you to get even more out of your family holiday in Florida.
