Skin disease like ringworm is not only infecting the skin but it can also travel to the nails that cover the skin on fingers. At one glance, you know there is abnormality on your nails but you didn't know how you got it, what caused it and what it is on your nails. A normal person without any knowledge in skin diseases will not be able to pinpoint the main issue. The only thing that could help you determine the disorder that has occurred on your nails basing from the symptoms that it has shown is a person who has the expertise on the said field.

A dermatologist who specializes in skin diseases can determine what type of disorder concerning on the skin affected your nails. They will try to diagnose it from the scrapings of the infected nail that will be viewed under a microscope to see what type of microorganisms caused it. Sometimes ringworm on the nail has occurred if there is already ringworm present in any parts of the body especially on the feet or fingers which are near the nails.

A direct contact on the infected skin is the mail cause of the spread of ringworm in the body. Healthy of not, you will get infected by ringworm if there is a direct source where you could get it but there are those who are at risk in having this disease even without a direct source. They are individuals who are vulnerable to the disease because of certain habits, situations or certain diseases already present in them that are favorable in the spread of ringworm in the nail. Here are they:

- Diabetes - person who has diabetes has a high glucose level which is favorable to any bacterial and fungal infection. These are just complications of diabetes. So most likely, ringworm on the nail will occur instantly to people who have diabetes even without any direct contact from an infected object or person.

- Peripheral vascular diseases - this disease affects the arteries and veins mainly outside the brain and heart. Person who has this type of disease may experience an inflammation and redness of the skin as the nail became damage and may break off easily. The symptom that is being shown from this disease is somewhat similar to ringworm that occurs in the nail. This triggers another infection of the skin caused by fungus which will gradually evolve as one.

- Old women - the texture of the skin changes as we grow old. The oil gland that is responsible for the suppleness and shiny appearance of the skin decrease its secretion causing the skin to become dry and dull. A dry skin is easily being irritated and easily tears off even from a simple bump from a hard surface. Any small opening from the skin is an open door to any type of infection such as ringworm on the nail. Old age also declines the immune system of the body that makes them vulnerable to any diseases.

- Artificial nails - women love to grow their nail long but others cannot do it without artificial nails. A preparation is needed in putting the artificial nail on your fingers but cuticle remover might infect your nails. Careless use of cuticle remover might cause wound that gives way to infection.
