The Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) is the stepping stone in the admission process to the TWO YEAR FULL TIME Postgraduate Degree Management Programmes offered by the IITs. At present IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras,IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Roorkee offer Management Programmes.

JMET is just a qualifying entrance examination, as candidates have to apply again to the particular Institutes of their choice. The result of the Test is a basis for each participating Institute to screen potential candidates for their own selection process, such as Interview and Group Discussion etc.

IIT JMET Solved Papers or JMET can give you a good clue of the examination trend. For answering IIT - JMET Question Papers, 3 hours is allotted. 120 questions of multiple choice or objective type will be given:

Verbal Communication

A candidate's interpretative and comprehension abilities in business English language, are tested by this section. decision-making roles of the potential manager, is examined through the felicity with common forms of English usage in business and grammar and the expression that would enable her /him to reach at an informed decision by extracting necessary information from varied data. Apart from having firm grasp on communicative English grammar, regular analysis of non-fiction prose and business articles, would be helpful in preparation of the section.

Logical Reasoning

This section comprises of explanation questions analysis, argument analysis and analytical reasoning.

Quantitative Ability

The aim of section is to test the Basic Mathematics understanding of the number:-Numbers; Operations; LCM and HCF; Percentages and Decimals, Fractions; Proportion and Ratio; Power and Roots; Progressions; Logarithms; Mensuration and Elementary Geometry ; Introductory Set Theory; Elementary Trigonometry.

Linear Algebra -- Matrices; Determinants; Equations and Inequalities; Simultaneous equations and solutions; Elementary differential calculus involving one variable functions; Elementary Linear Programming.

Probability Statistics and Frequency Distributions -- Measures of Dispersion and Central Tendency; Types of Data.

Probability Concepts -- Events, Basic Outcomes, Sample Spaces.

Probability Calculations -- Counting Rules using Combinations and Permutations, Intersections and Unions, Mutually Exclusive Events, Complementary Events, Independent Events and Conditional Probability.

Normal Random and Poisson Variables; Binomial, Correlation and Simple Linear Regression; for their utilisation in business applications, like Shareholding and Partnership; Depreciation; Present Worth and Discounts; Demand and Supply; Revenue and Cost, and common applications, as Banking Transactions;Mixtures; Inventories; Time and Distance ; Time and Work; Estimation of time,Pipes and Tanks; distance, volume, area, effort etc.

Data Interpretation

This tests the ability to build proper interpretation from the given set of IIT JMET Papers . Also, the understanding of the different forms of representation, say histograms, simple tables, pie charts, scatter diagrams, graphs etc. is evaluated . However, a lot of calculations are not expected, although some manipulations would be needed.

Negative marking is done for wrong answers. 25% of the allotted marks would be deducted for a wrong answer to a question. Furthermore, the candidate should not only secure minimum marks on the whole, but for each section given above.
