subject: Know The Magic Behind Telemarketing Sales [print this page]

Sometimes, the people you should be wary about are not hard to get clients but the gatekeepers. The gatekeepers are the people who answer the phone calls for your main target clients. A prime example of a gatekeeper is the receptionist. They are the ones who screen the calls of their bosses so you should be able to handle them well if you even want a chance to speak out your sales pitch. If you want easy access, make the gatekeeper your number one ally.

It is critical to be nice to the gatekeepers. Note that the act of being friendly should be sincere and as natural as possible as well. Be sure to know the gatekeepers name and address him or her by name at all times. Write down the name of the gatekeepers you know so you will not forget it.

Now that rapport is established, the next thing you should do is to make the gatekeepers feel important. You can do this by simply asking for their help instead of commanding them to do something. They are on the look out for sales people and if they recognize that you are one of them, they will immediately try to get rid of you.

It would be wise to go straight to the point when talking to the gatekeeper. With all the calls they are getting everyday, they will know if someone is just wasting their time. In telesales, time is of the essence.

Never ever underestimate the gatekeeper. They are the ones entrusted by their bosses to sort out important and unimportant calls. Being one of the trusted employees, they are actually more knowledgeable about the business of the boss more than any other person in the building. So to be able to be successful in telesales, befriend the gatekeeper.

If all the above suggestions lead you to rejection, keep your head up high and stay friendly. Do not get mad at the gatekeeper for they are just doing their job. After all, in telesales, a friendly attitude, whether you win or lose, will definitely go a long way.
