subject: The 2007 Honda Cr-v [print this page]

As far as small SUVs go, the 2007 Honda CR-V is one of the best choices possible. Compared with years past it hasn't really grown to much in size or powerfulness, but it has been refined into an even better vehicle. The interior is very user friendly and remains one of the most ergonomic in the category. Overall ride quality is very nice with practically no road noise, and handling is very nimble for an SUV. One downside may be the lack of power at highway speeds but that is rather negligible considering all of the benefits this vehicle has to offer.

The '07 models have been entirely revamped and a little more size has been added along with a little more power and user friendly refinements. This marks the third generation of these popular small SUVs and is designed for a very specific market. The vehicle is larger than the Ford Escape while remaining slightly smaller than the RAV-4 from Toyota. The spare tire has been taken off the rear upward lifting door and placed on the underbelly of the vehicle. A shelf has been added to the rear cargo area making it easier for owners to organize their belongings in a logical manner. Rear doors are also offered in swing styles that open up a full 90 degrees.

Honda still doesn't offer a V-6 engine for some reason which leaves it severely lacking in the power department. Competitors like the RAV-4 and Ford Escape both offer a V-6 option. The 4 cylinder engine available has been improved by 10 horsepower but there should be a little more available. The 2.4 liter engine comes with a five speed automatic transmission that is adequate but won't provide absolute control in high speed highway situations. It is a very comfortable ride by all means and the road noise reduction technology implemented make it ideal for long drives that require passengers to stretch out their legs.

Trim packages available include the LX, EX, and EX-L packages. The basic LX model offers 17 inch steel wheels, decent fabric seating material, a relatively modest stereo system, full power accessories, AC, and a nice center console that is very roomy. Those who want a little more out of the compact SUV should consider an EX package. These offer a great selection of body colors and interior accents that make them highly customizable to the consumers preference. Other available options include a moon roof, size speaker audio systems, CD changers, temperature gauges, and the cargo shelf in the rear. Those who really want the ultimate experience will have to purchase a EX-L model. All EX-L models come with heated mirrors and seats, leather upholstery, Satellite radio, and an expandable center console.

Gas mileage comes in at 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. Compared with it's competitors it either is better or similar in the fuel consumption category. That can mostly be attributed to the fact that it lacks a V6 engine that require more fuel.

Overall though the CR-V is great for those who have a small family and don't need all the space a full SUV offers. The pricing is very nice as well being under $30,000 and coming with a lot of extra accessories and features. This is a great buy for those who don't need to push the speed limits in every situation.
