The National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) had condemned the Vision 2020 of the Federal Government of Nigeria stating that the government could not live up to expectation for the Vision 2010 at the first decade of Nigerian democracy. Textile workers in Kaduna state said it is high time that Nigerian government lets them know who is deceiving who as the government could not realize the 6000 megawatt electricity or up hold the amnesty deal in Niger delta and other Vision 2010 project, yet, they have the guts to talk about the Vision 2020 while the Vision 2010 is a total failure. The General Secretary of the National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, Issa Aremu said the Vision 2010 had eluded Nigeria, the government still talks about Vision 2020, that must take some kind of miracle to achieve because you have count one in order to count two but when you cannot count one and you count two then, it will take heavenly intervention for the realization of the Vision 2020. The Textile workers stated that the Nigerian Government goes about talking about rebranding Nigeria, and they wonder how that will be possible by just rebranding the Nigerian flag and the Coat Of Arm without the proper rebranding of the Nigerian citizens. The worker stressed that the Nigerian President YarAdua must make up his mind to effectively govern the country this year, a lot must be done to ensure that a vacuum in decision-making did not further worsen the current under-developed state of the country. By all account, Nigeria regrettably lost the last decade (1999-2009) to poor governance, mass factory closures, underdevelopment, corruption and mass poverty and recently terrorism. Development in terms of capacity utilization, mass employment and value addition eluded Nigeria in the past decade. With persistent power failure, non-realization of modest target of 6000 mega watts of electricity, belated official apology, divestment and investment relocation to Ghana and Angola, achievements in the last decade fall unpardonably below huge resources officially appropriated for development which did not take place.. There is therefore an historic motivation for Nigeria to make a difference. The urgent challenge today is how Nigeria and Nigerians must win the next decade (2010-2020), failing which we might inadvertently fulfil the doomsdays prediction of those waiting to declare Nigeria a failed state... Interestingly, 2010 marks the golden jubilee of the countrys independence as a nation. It is self-evident that past Nigerias governments were time-conscious to attain development. Vision 2010 has sadly eluded Nigeria. Vision 2020 must be a reality. The first step is urgent resolution of the current governance crisis.About the Author:
