subject: Duffy The Duffer [print this page] I'm a golf nut, you know, the guy who will play golf no matter what the weather is like. well, I'm lucky I live here in Northern California and we have good weather , most of the time. So I get to play golf about three times a week. I try to play a few different courses each week. We have many great courses in Marin and Sonoma counties. Depending on the time of day, because of the heavy traffic, is how I pick my course.. Mornings I travel north and in afternoon I go south.
I'll start my tour in Mill Valley. They have a nice little nine hole course. I stop here after work as it is easy to get in nine holes. Mill Valley does have it's problems. The course is very small and on a couple of holes you drive over the next fairway. I've had a number of close calls. But it can be fun if you watch out for all the beginning golfers. Do take along a few extra golf ball because ,as I said the fairways are narrow and if you miss one the rough is no place to be. being only 2140 yards the course can be very difficult.
One of the most beautiful courses is in Bodega Bay. The bodega harbor course is a links course. If you have ever wanted to play golf in Scotland and haven't made it yet then play at Bodega. I love this course, it brings back memories of playing in the UK. The course is 7,548 yards. I try to play here at least four times a year.
The Chardonnay Glof Club is located south of Napa. This is my home course so of course I love it. It's a 27 hole semi-private course open to the public. What sets this course apart from the others is it's setting.The course winds it's way through the vineyards of the beautiful Napa Valley Give it a try , I think you will love it also.
Then there is the great Indian Valley golf course in Novato, California. I have a special place in my heart for this course as this is where I learned to play. I also taught my son to play golf at Indian Valley. The course is very hilly so most shots are up hill or down hill. On one hole, number fourteen , you take an elevator up to the tee box. The greens are very small and tricky which makes this a fer challenging course. The course is located about three miles west of Novato. Take Novato blvd west and look for the sign,. It's hard to see and you can miss it very easy.
