subject: Who's Who In Jupiter Island [print this page]

For years Jupiter Island has been attracting some of the most affluent families in the world. In fact, this exclusive hideaway is the perfect playground for the rich and famous! Situated north of Palm Beach, between the Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, Jupiter Island offers white sandy beaches, lush unspoiled surroundings, and quick access to airports, shopping, world-class restaurants, and championship golf courses.

Some of the the Island's notable past and present residents include: Tori Amos, Bryant Gumbel, Michael Jordon, Burt Reynolds and other assorted politicians and athletes. Jupiter Island is a popular spot for golfers, including Greg Norman who currently has a home up for sale.

After unsuccessfully trying to sell his estate in 2008, this humble abode is back up on the market. "Tranquility," (not quite a fitting name for a residence that has seen two divorces), is the seventh most expensive house in the U.S. - probably more if you add in the two divorce settlements. Sitting on 8 acres, Tranquility boasts 9 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, six separate buildings including the beachfront main house, coach house, carriage house guest house, and a 50-foot pool and gym. There is plenty of room for parking in the 17-car garage and docking facilities for a large yacht.

If you can afford the $65 million price tag, you won't blink an eye at the $130,000 property tax bill.

Another Jupiter resident whose home has been making headlines lately, is Celine Dion. Already a local, with residences in Admiral's Cove and Jack Nicklaus' Bear's Club, Dion has acquired a 3.7-acre oceanfront property on South Beach Road. Purchased in June 2005 for $12.5 million, all existing structures were leveled to create a blank canvas for her new family-friendly estate.

The objective was to create a relaxing "island-like" atmosphere with tropical themed architecture. In addition to the 9,825 square foot main home, the property will feature two guesthouses, an underground garage, two swimming pools, two tennis courts, a pool cabana and beach cabana boasting a small gym. The pool area will feature a special children's section complete with waterslides and lazy river.

The main house sports an octagon-shaped open design that features an ocean-facing living room, and two wings containing bedrooms and a sound-proof TV room. Take the stairs or the elevator upstairs and you'll find a large playroom, children's rooms and master suite.

The master suite boasts an outdoor spa, several balconies, three fireplaces and a dream 460-square foot closet.

After purchasing an adjacent 2-acre lot to serve as entrance and site of a future 2,621 square foot guesthouse, the final cost of the property was $19.5 million (before a single nail had been hammered).
