subject: Cholesterol And Statins. A Two Faced Lie [print this page]

Do you ever wonder why statins are still on the market despite the horrific side effects they have? One reason only: amazing profits. In 2006 only, Lipitor did 13.6 billion in sales. All statins make similar figures and it's only antidepressants that do better. the whole statins parody is based on the ASSUMPTION that cholesterol causes atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. There has never been a study proving this hypothesis. The link between cholesterol and heart disease is significantly low (correlation coefficient of 0.36). From a statistical point of view this is absolutely unacceptable. Scientists on the leading edge have been declaring the above truth but mainstream medicine simply ignores them. Dr Uffe Ravnskov is one of these doctors that has stated the obvious in his books and scientific publications many times. After reviewing loads of projects and publications he came to the "insulting" conclusion that people with high cholesterol actually live longer than the ones with low cholesterol. His exact words are as follows:

People with high cholesterol live the longest. This statement seems so incredible that it takes a long time to clear ones brainwashed mind to fully understand its importance. Yet the fact that people with high cholesterol live the longest emerges clearly from many scientific papers. Consider the finding of Dr. Harlan Krumholz of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Yale University, who reported in 1994 that old people with low cholesterol died twice as often from a heart attack as did old people with a high cholesterol.(1) Supporters of the cholesterol campaign consistently ignore his observation, or consider it as a rare exception, produced by chance among a huge number of studies finding the opposite.

But it is not an exception; there are now a large number of findings that contradict the lipid hypothesis. To be more specific, most studies of old people have shown that high cholesterol is not a risk factor for coronary heart disease. This was the result of my search in the Medline database for studies addressing that question.(2) Eleven studies of old people came up with that result, and a further seven studies found that high cholesterol did not predict all-cause mortality either.

1. Krumholz HM and others. Lack of association between cholesterol and coronary heart disease mortality and morbidity and all-cause mortality in persons older than 70 years. Journal of the American Medical Association272, 1335-1340, 1990.

2. Ravnskov U. High cholesterol may protect against infections and atherosclerosis. Quarterly Journal of Medicine 96, 927-934, 2003.

Now how frustrating is that?? It has been a lifetime of brainwashing against cholesterol and the dangers it entails for the heart.

Obviously there are more scientists supporting these findings. Many researchers have come to these conclusions but the bonds between Industry (Pharmaceutical companies) and Science (Corrupted and unethical scientists paid by the Industry) are very strong indeed.

The bottomline is that statins are being prescribed not because they reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease but because the companies producing them are making billions from this. Also cholesterol is GOOD for your health although all of us have been persuaded for the exact opposite since we were babies. Now you know why this has happened. There are natural, 100% efficient and safe alternatives to lower your risk of cardiovascular diseases.
