Stars of the Lid One of the most critically acclaimed bands, ambient or otherwise, for the past 15+ years, Stars of the Lid is a duo from Austin, Texas who specialize in melodic, droning ambient music, most often said to be influenced by the late records of Talk Talk and the ambient works of Brian Eno. Their songs mix in a lot of sampled and looped live instrument effects from guitar to piano and horns, with an emphasis on dramatic and swelling sounds, often comparable to classical music. They dont release music very often but when they do, they go all out, with their latest full-length records from 2001 and 2007 being double disc releases, with nary a filler track included.
