Here is a list of the most influential ambient music artists who have created some of the most beautiful and melodic live and loop based music, whether with computers or live instruments, their music is perfect to rest to or to create your new masterpiece on thedisplay easel. Cluster Cluster are a hard band to pin down. Their releases in the 70s are considered highlights in the Krautrock genre, but they are also seen as hallmarks of what would become the ambient sound. The band has been active since 1971 in various incarnations and have collaborated with many different artists, most notably Brian Eno in 1977 and 78. They still write and record and have released a total of 13 records. Their sound is slightly more avant-garde than most traditional ambient music but makes use of numerous electronic loops and found sounds to create an experimental electronica sound that has influenced many modern bands from The Orb to Mouse on Mars. They made a reunion in 2009 and recorded and toured with their new record, Qua, the first new material in 14 years. Stars of the Lid One of the most critically acclaimed bands, ambient or otherwise, for the past 15+ years, Stars of the Lid is a duo from Austin, Texas who specialize in melodic, droning ambient music, most often said to be influenced by the late records of Talk Talk and the ambient works of Brian Eno. Their songs mix in a lot of sampled and looped live instrument effects from guitar to piano and horns, with an emphasis on dramatic and swelling sounds, often comparable to classical music. They dont release music very often but when they do, they go all out, with their latest full-length records from 2001 and 2007 being double disc releases, with nary a filler track included. They are often cited as one of the most intellectual and engaging new ambient bands making music today.About the Author:
