subject: Seniors Online Exploring New Things [print this page] Seniors online: With the use of the internet, we are communicating in ways we never even dreamed of decades ago. Seniors come from an era where the technology we have today was not available. We do everything via internet. We pay the bills, do research, find love, send and receive messages, etc. These days, we are seeing more seniors joining the rest of the world and incorporating regular internet use.
A number of the senior centers offer classes for things like learning how to use the internet. It takes a special person with a lot of patience to teach seniors how to log on. The first step may be as simple as how to turn the computer on and off.
The classes may be individually conducted or in small groups. Typing is one of the skills that may be required to build. Coming from the 60's and 70s, you will not see many seniors that can type as quickly as many of the younger generation today.
The age of being a senior citizen starts at 60. This age group is from an era when internet was not around. They may not be aware of the things you can explore online. Those with children and grandchildren using the internet can learn from them. From downloading songs, surfing various topics, once the seniors get started, there is a chance they might get hooked!
Like many of the younger users, seniors have access to online dating. They can bake a pie after finding the recipe online. They can even learn to send and receive emails and instant messages. But have a little patience if your grandma or grandpa takes ten minutes just to respond back with two words. They may not be able to type as fast as you.
If you are looking for buddies to go fishing with, play bingo with, you may be able to find friends with your interests.
