subject: Be Noticed [print this page] It isn't difficult to be noticed in this world. People will notice you if you have an odd tattoo on your forehead, carry a big advertising sign for a hot dog stand, or just holler "Ice Cream!" very loudly in a public area. Everybody stands out, really, in their own way -- well, almost everybody.
A lot of Christians don't really want to stand out from other people. They want to be copycats of everybody, behave in the same ways, and have the same characteristics. At one time there were wolves masquerading as sheep, but now there are sheep masquerading as wolves and attacking other sheep.
Certainly, this can be understood. A lot of people gave me funny looks the last time I was wearing my Jesus t-shirt while riding the subway. It seems Jesus just isn't cool these days. Those who believe, just try to act like everybody else for fear of being different.
Well, let me tell you this. The time has come for you to stand out in the crowd. Don't be like everybody else, if you have faith in Jesus, make yourself noticeable. When you go to work, proudly wear your crucifix, slip that purity ring on your finger, and do not hesitate to abstain. When a person discusses his/her life, discuss the life that you have been blessed with--an eternal life.
The purpose is to exist as if Jesus were right next to you when you are walking around, having conversations, and behaving in a manner of which Jesus would approve. Don't be shy about wholesomeness, being good, and honest. Nevertheless, don't harass people with your beliefs either. Standing out doesn't give you the right to approach everybody at your school and say that they will end up in hell. Standing up isn't defined as having a "holier than thou" attitude with everyone you see until they don't care to be around you. After all, Christ was someone who really stood out.
The expectations he gave for the world were easy: love, honesty, mercy, grace, and patience. Of course, he was firm with the truth when he was being tested with lies. He was also, though, incredibly good-hearted. People noticed him and wanted to find out what was special about him and how they could experience this. All He had to do was live, and people changed to imitate Him. That is what we should strive to be like.
Clean off your Christian t-shirts and don't be ashamed of your faith. Our calling to live for God is more important than anything else. Our faith can be displayed like this, when we live for Christ and be bold. Trust me -- that's how to really stand out in the world. And it is possible that several people will desire the same thing: hope and a reason for living.
