For those of you who dont know what a throwback jersey is, its the old school uniforms worn by NFL athletes back in the day. They are vintage jerseys that remind us of all the old championships and outdated logos that we loved. The Pepsi Company is playing off this highly marketed jersey and they have developed their very own Pepsi Throwback can, offered for a limited time. Thats right, they are currently using the old colors, old logo, and old look of a classic Pepsi pop can. So how will this affect Pepsi sales? In my opinion, it will boost sales, especially during this exciting post-season and the week to week anticipation of the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl. In fact, I saw the commercial last night and actually went out and bought a 12-pack. Of course, thats because they were on sale but who could resist. The old cans are cooler, classic, and reminiscent of rewarding childhood memories. In all reality, I dont think it would hurt if Pepsi decides to switch back to the old labels permanently. If it boosts sales, why not right? Pepsi should take a poll and decide if the throwback jersey should in fact be a regular offer during the NFL season in the years to come. A limited time offer is a pretty good tactic but instead of just this year, I hope they continue the tradition for years to come. Corporate Pepsi should present display easels full of old Pepsi images and new Pepsi images and decide what people like best. I would not be surprised if popular demand does in fact favor the throwbacks. Besides, have you seen those commercials yet? Very classic and very effective. Only time will tell for the cool new, Pepsi Throwback cans.
