subject: Do You Make These Mistakes About Spyware? [print this page]

It's very easy to "catch a disease" in today's internet world. Spyware, almost like a cold... An uninvited virus, will not kill you, but seriously upset your computer's activity, and sometimes slow it down to rest. So if you are currently visiting the wrong types of sites and accepting strange emails, your computer is slow and pop-ups appear at uninvited times it's very likely you have spyware.

Spyware is different than "viruses" or "adware". Adware is a program you download and accept to recieve ads for using their program or service for free. A virus is uninvited and usually put on your computer by hackers or harmful software downloaded from illegal websites.

Spyware can is much like a "cold". You can get it without knowing how or why. Surfing and downloading certain software, often times called "freeware" can sometimes contain spyware. If you are on illegal download sites, of any kind: Wares, torrents, downloads, serials, cracks etc is likely to contain spyware. These sites want you to be intersted in the "free", but then steal your credit card information or steal your identity online.

They can also place keyloggers on your computer. This is a small software program that runs in the background. It will send every key stroke you put into your keyboard to a remote location which the hackers can access. This is one of the most dangerous types of spyware that can seriously harm your computer intergrity and your personal integrity.

If you are making the mistake of visiting these types of site, or seeking out "adult websites" it is only a matter of time before you get a virus or spyware that will harm your computer in more ways than you want.

Here are a few tips to make sure you do not catch this "internet cold" called spyware:

Make sure that you have an updated and legitimate spyware program installed on your PC.

Stay away from "untrustworthy" websites, that relate to torrents, adult content, warez, hacks, serials, cracks or pirated software.

Make sure you update your computer on a regular basis.

Check your computer taskmanager frequently and look for weird, or unusual programs that are running.

Do not click on uninvited ads that relate to "adult sites"

Do not open emails from strangers that have attachments or images, they can contain "hidden installers".

These are some of the ways you can stay protected from getting spyware, but if your computer is slow right now you will need to install a spyware program to help remove it!
