subject: Learning to Be Happy One Step at a Time [print this page]

Being happy is life's ultimate goal and the ultimate desire behind any one of our goals. Can we really find our true happiness by attaining and reaching our goals? Can we learn to be happy whether we have goals or not? Is learning to be happy a goal? How can we learn to be truly happy? These are some of the question addressed in this article.

Learning to be Happy Right Now

Happiness in the end is just an emotional state, a state of mind. Learning to get into an emotional state of happiness can be learned by anyone who is willing to put forth some effort. Some people seem to be naturally happy all the time, while others struggle to even smile - let alone feel truly happy. Also, so many people put on their happy face all day long pretending to be really happy, but deep down inside it is all a big lie. This does not have to be so. We can learn to smile again, learn to be happy again, just like when you were a kid and smiled and laughed so easily, and didn't question or sabotage your happiness.

The Happiness muscles

Exercising our happiness muscles is just like exercising the muscles in your arms. The more your exercise them, the more resistance you place against them, the bigger they get. Here is how you can put some resistance to your happiness muscles. Through your inner focus you can grab your happiness dumbbells and begin your repetitions. Start by grabbing a 2 pound dumbbell, nothing really heavy. This translates into thinking something like - "I want to be really happy right now." Then you want to move on to something a little heavier like - "I am really happy right now." Then you are ready to get down and dirty and pick up something really heavy, a twenty five pound dumbbell. Ready? Now say - "I will always be really happy, even when things go wrong, in spite of my anger, in spite of my fears, in spite of my hatred." Follow by affirming with the word YES x 7! Repeat these steps daily and you'll be amazed at what can happen with your happiness muscles.
