There may be various reasons why a person chooses to live off-campus. He/she may need quiet and calm atmosphere to study and do academic research or interpret living in apartments as a rehearsal for a future life. Some of students prefer private bed- and bathrooms, they like cooking for themselves while students who live on-campus usually eat by dining cards in various eateries. Private apartments are usually bigger and, in any way, one does not obligatory have to share them with neighbors. Also there is no restriction in time-table, such as campus curfew, etc. But still, one should assess a lot of expenses every month if he/she chooses to live in houses or apartments. These are the main points which living off-campus student has to pay for. 1.The first one is, of course, rental payment. Even if you share your apartment with a roommate or lease only a room you will have to save some money to pay for a dwelling every month. 2.The second thing which costs money is utility services. Very often rent does not include payment for all the utilities or just one of them. The option varies from contract to contract. You may pay only for electricity and gas, or prices may include telephone, water and other bills. 3.The third thing is that commuting is not free either. If you have a car, you will need some money in order to pay for insurance, gasoline, and maintenance of its good condition. Also you will need a parking pass to a campus territory. 4.The fourth point is that you need to eat something. Of course, you may still be included in the campus meal plan and use dining cards, but anyway, you will probably cook at home and use secured cards for some special occasions. You will need money for grocery shopping and other things, so you should take it into account.
