The 2010 polo season has officially begun at White Rose Polo in East Yorkshire, and an action-packed programme of tournaments and events is planned for the coming months.

Now in its fourth season, White Rose Polo Club has grown rapidly year on year, helping to put the thriving polo in Yorkshirescene firmly on the map. The Summit Polo School, which is based on the same site at Townend Farm at North Cliffe, near Market Weighton, teaches hundreds of Polo Lessons each year, nurturing developing talent from across Yorkshire and beyond.

Key dates for this season include June 12 and 13, when the Summit Cup, White Rose Polo Clubs blue riband tournament will be held at Townend Farm; 27 June, when White Rose Polo Club will head to Castle Howard for the day to compete against sides from across the UK in the third annual Castle Howard Cup; and August 14 and 15, when White Rose Polo Cup will go head to head with its local rivals in the Yorkshire Open.

Club chukkas are played at Townend Farm every weekend during the summer months, and members of the public are more than welcome to go along to watch. Other special events taking place at White Rose Polo Club this summer include a Ladies tournament on 28 August and the Presidents Cup on 9 May.

Claudia Weiler, managing director of the Summit Polo School and Livery, said: During the last four seasons we have attracted more than 50 members and also given lessons to hundreds of people from across Yorkshire and beyond.

We are now Yorkshires largest polo club and see nurturing budding talent here are the Summit Polo School as an important part of our role. There are not many places to play polo , particularly in the north of England, so we provide a fantastic opportunity for those people who are interested in trying a polo taster session or a course of lessons. Were very keen to encourage people of all ages to come and give polo a try under the expert guidance of our coach, Tony Wesche. Its a sport that people of all ages can enjoy, and no previous riding experience is necessary.

Weve got some fantastic events lined up for the 2010 season, which should be great fun for members and spectators alike. We hope that some of the spectators who come along to our major tournaments will want to give polo a try for themselves.
