Little do people know that Cyprus, basically an island in the eastern Mediterranean, is one of the most religious countries in the realm of European Union. Kyrenia Gate

Porte del Provveditore together with its original name can be found on the northern portion of the circular city wall and its stone tablets, in truth, dates back to Venetian Era, Ottoman Reign and British Colonial Period. Islamic Edifices

* Arabahmet mosque happens to be a striking archetypal Ottoman tombstone and remains covered with a great and three smaller domes. The structure was built under the leadership of Arab Ahmet Pasha, one of the generals of the victorious Ottoman Army, in the 17th century. The courtyard consists of lots of important tombs along with an octagonal fountain, meant for ablution.

* Turunclu mosque is located near to the Lidra Street (Lokmaci) Pass and was constructed by Seyit Mehmet Agha. He was the Ottoman Governor of Cyprus in 1825.

* Iplik Pazari mosque is situated near the Great Hamam and is considered as one of the two mosques in Cyprus containing a stone-coned minaret. The construction of this major Islamic edifice took place in 1826 and was elaborated together with some additions in the year 1899.

Among the major Christian edifices, St. Nicholas Church deserves special mentions. It remains adjacent to the Selimiye Mosque and still charms a visitor by its fine-looking Gothic portal.
