subject: Scared To Start Making Your Own Hip Hop Beats? Music Production Software [print this page]

So, you want to get started in the world of music production software, and you think "hey this doesn't sound too complicated, I could easily do this stuff." Well, turns out you are absolutely right, getting your feet wet in this industry a lot easier than it would seem at first. The one thing that is stopping you is you need to get some music production software. There are tons programs on the market right now, ranging from cheap to a few thousand dollars. One of these programs is called FL Studio. FL Studio is an excellent program for making beats, however it is around $80 I believe, which I think is too much for a beginner. There is a free trial floating around somewhere, but it does not let you save your beats. Whats the point of making beats if you cant save them and burn them to CDs?

Another excellent program for making beats is called Reason. Both Reason and FL Studio cost around $80-$100 or more, and both require quite an extensive knowledge of sound (hz and khz and alot of math!). I would definitely not recommend these programs for beginners. Once you have basic knowledge and have made a few beats, then you can upgrade your program. Broke you say? Try to get people to buy hip hop beats off of you! But you need to start somewhere that's why I would recommend a program called Sonic Producer if you want to start making hip hop beats. This is an online beat maker that lets you make beats right in your browser. Don't think that means it's lacking in quality however! This thing is a beast! It has a 16 track sequencer, a preset sound library with thousands of sounds, the ability to save to your computer as an mp3, and also teaches you how to make beats for FREE with membership to the site. Really not a bad deal if you ask me.

What I usually do is every 15-20 beats I make with Sonic Producer, I save them as mp3s to my computer (which is the sickest part about this program, IMO), and have friends over to listen to my mix tapes and make more beats. I've gotten all my friends into making hip hop beats now. What are you waiting for? Dont buy hip hop beats, start making your own today!
