subject: The 2005 Ford Mustang [print this page] The 2005 Ford Mustang certainly has been improved from previous models, and that says a lot. Consider that nearly every aspect of performance, styling, and power have been improved in some manner. The V8 equipped GT models are more powerful and handle better than previous sold axle suspension models were able to and the cool retro styling inside and out certainly are benefits as well. Safety is still a little behind modern times, lacking stability control and side curtain airbags. Overall however, those who want to enter the performance car market and are on a budget will be more than happy with one of the infamous pony cars.
For 2005 the Ford Mustang is the only pony car offered. Both the Chevy Camaro and Pontiac Thunderbird were either out of production or cancelled entirely. It is important to remember that the mustang is the original pony car as well, and proved itself more than capable of outlasting all the competition. As stated before it is the issue of handling that keeps the Mustang more similar to the 60's models than that of a modern performance car. The solid axle suspension offers for one of the roughest rides a modern car owner could experience, but the power certainly makes up for this problem. Pricing is also a great aspect for these cars, ranging from more than affordable to outright expensive.
Trim packages include the V6 equipped models in Deluxe and Premium. GT models come in Deluxe and Premium packages as well. The basic V6 Deluxe comes with 16 inch alloy wheels, AC, power windows and locks, remote keyless entry, cruise control, CD players, and other optional upgrades. V6 Premium models have a Shaker premium audio system, enhanced wheels, power seats, optional convertible body styles, and leather seating.
GT Deluxe models come with the basic V6 models equipment along with antilock brakes, fog lamps, 17 inch wheels, and full power accessories. The ultimate model is the GT Premium that is sure to impress. It comes with the upgraded stereo system and full leather upholstery, steering wheels, and shifters. The interior design has been significantly altered on GT premium models, offering the most luxury ever for a Mustang car.
Engines offered for the 2005 Ford Mustang include the 4.0 liter V6 that put out 210 horsepower and 240 pound feet of torque. GT models come 4.6 liter V8 that has 300 horsepower and 320 pound feet of torque. There are three valves to supply each cylinder on V8 models. Rear wheel drive is the standard for all Mustangs and they are equipped with a 5 speed manual or 5 speed automatic transmission for a little more money.
It is really hard to compare the Mustang to any other vehicle simply because all of it's competitors in the class have been retired, and it is unfair to put it up against high end performance cars. Interior quality has been greatly improved from previous years, and Ford has simplified the control clusters and made it a more ergonomic vehicle. Body styling is more similar to that of the original models than most recent predecessors. Consumers will do well to consider one of these great cars as way to break into the performance car market. The only negative thing to consider is the simplistic axle system.
