subject: Personal Electric Generation System At Home [print this page] Personal electric generation systems provides a means for many families to remove their dependency on fossil fuels. With the economy on the down and down as oil prices go up and up, we're always looking for renewable sources of energy to replace our dwindling supplies. We primarily look to solar and wind power to replace these fuels. Both are effective to some extent, though solar power takes the throne as the most efficient, both in space and production.
Using The Sunlight
Solar power has often been used in ancient times. From heating pipes for warm water to evaporating out the impurities, its uses are numerous. In the past few decades, we've harnessed the power of semi-conductor materials and one of them, silicon, has brilliant properties when in the sunlight. The sun's photons bounce off the negative electrons and cause them to flow through the material, creating a usable current. This generates electricity that can be fed out into whatever the user pleases.
The scale of the solar panel can be made larger as the user wishes with the wattage being the main measurement. Hundreds of watts mean the panel can be used to power big appliances, maybe even most of the house in some cases. Dozens of watts mean it could charge batteries or singular appliances. In some cases, individuals may use solar power to power all the lights in the house, but nothing else.
Using The Wind
While solar panels can work during a cloudy day and are flat and have no moving parts, thus lasting decades, wind turbines have no such properties. They're bigger, more unwieldy, generate less electricity in the long run and only function when it's windy. Furthermore, the moving parts mean they require maintenance regularly. Wind turbines are most effective in wind turbine farms, where their sheer size can generate a lot of electricity. However, for a single home, personal electricity generation through wind is a lot less practical. I have personally managed to build my own home DIY renewable energy system by following an online system which you can find out more about at my website link below.
